Now that the children are a little bit older we can't wait to travel abroad with them and see the sights of Europe and beyond. Of course it's fascinating for them to find out about different cultures and even to learn a bit of the local lingo. So we were really excited to get sent a pack to help us learn some Spanish from Three Mobile to celebrate the recent inclusion of Spain to their Feel at Home mobile roaming network. This is great as it means that you can use your phone abroad at no extra cost.
We had a Rough Guide To Spain so that we could get to know a little about this gorgeous country and a Spanish Flag to wave to cheer us on in our linguistic attempts! Of course nowadays you don't need to have private lessons or attend evening classes to learn another language you can do it all from the comfort of your own home. Using my iphone we were able to choose a language app to download so that we could learn on the go! It's also really useful as you can use the app from your iphone when you are abroad so you can get some practical experience of speaking the language at the same time!
There's an amazing range of language apps out there but three of the best are:
We decided to use DuoLingo and found it very intuitive and easy to use. It was great being able to learn via an app as you could simply choose to open it when you had a spare few minutes and you could pick up the language in an informal way. The children have already been learning some basic Spanish at school so it was great to have something that fitted into their curriculum and I now feel that I can keep up with them!
We also decided to do some Spanish themed activities to go with our language learning. We made a tasty Spanish paella with spicy chorizo and the children found some Spanish music to dance to with their castanets. We'll definitely keep up our language learning and are hoping to try it out when we visit Spain next year!
