A dinosaur trail and much more, the kids will love Knebworth House

Knebworth house is one of the most popular stately homes in the country. It’s actually well known throughout the world because of its excellent rock concerts and was once home to the famous novelist Edward Bulwer Lytton.

It’s a great day out for the entire family and it’s open on weekends from March until September. During the months it isn’t open, there are still events sometimes held that you should look out for.

Exploring the house

Knebworth House has a very romantic design; it features gargoyles, turrets and domes. Its interior gives a living museum feel and you’ll get to discover artefacts that date back 500 years. Each member of the Lytton family who has lived in the house has left their own stamp on it.

You can choose to have an audio tour if you’d like to learn more about the history of the house and its current owners. You’ll be taken aback by how dramatic everything looks. As you glance at the tall, delicate windows you won’t question the sash window repair cost ever again. Older houses are expensive to maintain and this won’t be lost on you as you walk around.

If you’re travelling to Knebworth house with the family, the dinosaur trail is an absolute must. Taking part in the wilderness garden, there are an incredible 72 dinosaurs found grazing in the grounds. Not real ones obviously, but they are life size and your kids will love them. There’s even a chalk board where your kids can create their own caveman style drawings.

As well as the dinosaur trail, there’s also an adventure playground and a park to enjoy. The adventure playground has a bouncy castle, walkways and swings. A new activity introduced in 2013 is the interactive water features. These have proven to be really popular. The park has a herd of beautiful red deer and it’s an ideal place to enjoy a picnic.

Knebworth House provides you with a great day out no matter who you are travelling with. There are plenty of refreshments available and so much to keep everyone entertained. As well as rock concerts, there are other concerts held here throughout the year too. A-list stars such as Robbie Williams have performed here and it’s been providing live music to the public for more than 40 years.
