Luxury Baby Christening Ideas

There's nothing more wonderful than a new baby being born and many people choose to welcome their baby to the world with a Christening. Not only is this a beautiful traditional ceremony but it is also a great reason for family and friends to come together to celebrate...and have a bit of a party. Of course there is set to be a rise in Christenings over the next year as people flock to emulate the royal couple Kate and William who had their adorable baby Prince George Christened earlier this year.

Although Christenings used to be fairly relaxed events there is now a trend for them to be more of a formal celebration and they often include smart outfits, readings, fantastic cakes and even a sit down lunch or dinner. I really love these occasions and I have been lucky enough to have been invited to many friends baby's Christenings over the years. However I always have one problem, and that is what to buy as a gift. Rattles and vests, though practical, seem a bit mundane and although vouchers can be a solution they don't seem very personal.  So as I have a couple to attend next year I have been getting organised and scouring the web for some unique and luxurious presents for the little ones!

The first idea I found was this baby shawl from the lovely online store Cocobaci (which means chocolate kisses!). The shawl itself looks gorgeously soft and I think it is an ideal present for a Winter christening. It's perfect for keeping baby warm and snuggly and after the Christening it can be used as cot or pram blanket too. It is also made by the English company G.H. Hurt and Son who are the supplier of choice for the royal baby! I can imagine this present being handed down through the generations so it's a great idea for a gift that will keep on giving.

If you are looking for something less traditional you could try one of this range of newborn gift sets. There's a great selection of ideas ranging from adorable organic outfits to fantastic playhouse sets (ballerina or mechanic themed) which the new baby will definitely be thanking you for in years to come! I also love the idea of a bathtime gift set which includes a super soft organic bath robe and some beautiful smelling baby bubble bath. This is a lovely gift as it manages to be practical but also luxurious and really special. At £50 for a set it is also really well priced which means you don't have to worry about keeping within your gift budget.

Of course one of my favourite retailers John Lewis also has a great selection of Christening gifts too. Some of these gift ideas include classic presents such as silver money boxes and tea sets or a slightly more unique  "name a star" set where you can name a star after they baby - what a sweet idea!. I personally love this colourful Noah's ark bowl and plate set which is sure to become a firm favourite at meal times.

I was pleased to find that there was a really good selection of Christening gifts to be found online as it makes life a lot easier to shop via the web. Whatever your budget there are some adorable presents out there whether you are a relative, Godparent or a family friend. There are going to be some very lucky babies in 2014!
