Festive Baking For Children - Stained Glass Window Biscuits

These stained glass window biscuits are easy and inexpensive to make but they look so pretty that you can even use them as Christmas tree decorations or hang them up by the window to catch the light. The "stained glass" is made by using crushed boiled sweets which melt in a hot oven. They would also make a lovely present

Ingredients:

90g butter

200g plain flour

100g caster sugar

1 egg

1 packet of multicoloured boiled sweets

Begin by dividing the sweets into separate colours and then crush the sweets using a rolling pin (warning this is quite hard work but a good way to take out your anger!)

Then mix the butter, flour, caster sugar and egg until they form a dough. Roll the dough into a ball, cover in clingfilm and chill in the fridge for 30 mins (you don't have to do this but it does make the dough easier to roll out).

Roll out your dough and cut out the shapes that you want your biscuit to be - we used hearts, stars and circles.

Then cut out a circle in the middle of each biscuit and lay the shapes on a baking tray covered in lightly greased baking paper. If you want to use them as tree decorations don't forget to make a hole in the top to thread ribbon through.

Fill the hole with the crushed sweets and put in the oven at 180C for approx 10-12 minutes.

When they come out let the sweets cool down and harden and then lift off the tray. Eat or hang them on the tree!
