Now if there's one restaurant that I'm really fond of it's a Beefeater. Growing up in the 70's and early 80's the Beefeater epitomised style, class and tasty food. I have very happy memories of going out for Steak and the ubiquitous Black Forest Gateaux with my parents as a child so it was lovely to be given the chance to visit the 2015 version of this great restaurant chain!
This time it was my turn to treat my parents as they have been really helpful with looking after the children for me in the summer holidays so the family friendly Beefeater at Coreys Mill in Stevenage seemed like the perfect place for a tasty thank you lunch.
We started off by having a drink it the stylish beer garden so the kids could let off steam a bit before sitting down to eat. When we were ready we headed inside and were greeted by a really friendly waitress who put us at ease and led us to our table on the upper mezzanine level. I think you can always judge a restaurant by how they treat children and it was lovely that the children had a Mr Men & Little Miss activity book and a little plastic Little Miss character to play with. The books were great and really kept them amused whilst we perused the menu.
It was lovely to have so much choice and there was a really good range of meals on offer. There was also a brilliant daytime menu where you could get a 2 course deal. I chose breaded mushrooms (as did mum, husband and dad - we obviously love mushrooms), then I went for a classic steak and chips for main, my mum ordered salmon and my dad and husband chose the mixed grill (no veggies in our family!).
The children both chose nachos to start from the children's menu and then macaroni cheese and pizza. I loved the fact that all the kids sides were flexible so fussy eaters are well catered for as you can swap the recommended sides for whatever your child fancies from the menu choice.
It was a lovely relaxed atmosphere as we waited for our food to come and the friendly staff ensured that we felt really at home.
When the food arrived we were really impressed. The children pretty much devoured their nachos and we really enjoyed the juicy breaded mushrooms with a choice of dips. The mains when they came were delicious, the steak was cooked to perfection and went perfectly with my paprika fries. My mum (who can be rather fussy) really enjoyed her salmon and the men loved their huge mixed grilles, valiantly polishing off the lot!.
I would have loved a desert as they looked amazing but we were all very full by now so decided to head off home. We had a great meal at the Beefeater and it was lovely to spend some quality time together as a family with good food, good company and a good atmosphere. So, although lots has changed since I visited as a child, what hasn't changed is the great quality food and friendly service...we'll definitely be back and I won't wait 30 years this time!
